Opportunity to Join Judging List
The judging lists for the Flatcoated Retriever Club of Scotland are compiled twice yearly by the Judges Sub Committee. This group is appointed by the main committee and are responsible for not only compiling the lists from new applications and updates from those already on the list, but for recommending any changes necessary to the criteria including those required to comply with Kennel Club rules. Three quarters of the members of the Judges Sub Committee are approved by the KC to award Challenge Certificates in the breed.

Appointment of Judges.
The appointment of individual judges to a post at licensed club events will be made by a secret ballot of the committee, except for  the appointment of championship show judges, who will picked by a ballot of members and presented to the AGM each year. Details of all names proposed and outcome of committee ballot to be recorded in minutes of relevant committee meeting.

Open Show
The criteria is for the judge to be on the Club's B list and not to have judged the breed in Scotland during preceding 12 months.

Championship Show
Nominees to meet criteria for A3 list, and not to have judged the same sex of the breed in Scotland in the preceding 48 months (4 years) and elsewhere in the UK in the preceding 24 months (2 years).

Breed Education Co-ordinator (BEC) Report - Judges Education Programme (Breed Shows)

In May 2019 the (then) Judges Competency Framework was put on hold pending an independent review. Following the review carried out between August and December 2019, the KC Board agreed to changes based upon recommendations made by the review panel.

From January 2020 the KC Board agreed to rename the Judges Competency Framework (JCF) to The Judges Education Programme (Breed Shows) (JEP).
